Mankayam Eco Tourism

The Mankayam Eco Tourism project of Government of Kerala is near Palode of Nadumangadu, Trivandrum. The Mankayam waterfalls is an excellent spot for picnic. The place is managed by the Kerala State Forest Department.

The Mankayam waterfalls is formed by the Mankayam River originated from the River Chittar from the Chemunchi hill ranges and flowing down through the Brymore estate.

Visitors can go to nearby picturesque spots and can also go for trekking. An interior area trek here, covering Iruthala Moola - Ayampara is a half day trek, which also would enable one to witness the Ayampara waterfalls and some of the wildlife in the area. Adventure inclined visitors may opt for the one day Mankayam - Varayadin Mottai trek. This trek would take one through rolling valleys, grasslands and shola forests. You would also come across the endangered Nilgiri Tahr; a species of wild goat, at the peak of Varayadin Mottai. Camping options are available here along with trained guides.

Neyyar Dam

A tour to Neyyar Dam will be a good experience. The lion safari park here gives a good sight for both kids and adults. For those who have visited expert maintained safari parks, this will be a waste of time. But for those who have visited zoos only this will be exciting. The fresh water aquarium, gardens, dam view and the watch tower gives additional attractions to this.

It will not take more than one hour to reach Neyyar Dam from Trivandrum. If you are visiting Trivandrum and thinks about a retreat centre, then think about Neyyar Dam.
